WHO WE ARE: Boy Scout Troop 5/8 is a Ridgewood-area troop sponsored by First Presbyterian Church, on East Ridgewood Avenue and Van Dien Street. We have about 50 scouts divided into 4 patrols, with about 10 registered adult volunteers. We are a boy-led troop. The weekly meetings and programs are planned and run by the scouts. The monthly outings are chosen by the scouts, but organized by the adult volunteers.
Webelos who cross over into our troop stay together as a patrol so that they can rapidly advance from Scout to Tenderfoot, Second Class and on to First Class.
Boy Scouting is available to boys who are 11 through 17 years old. The objectives of the Boy Scouts of America are to develop character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Scouts learn a multitude of life skills, especially outdoors skills.
